ABS Vertical Lifeline
Vertical Safety System

The ABS vertical lifeline system is a fall protection solution incorporating a vertical rope guide. With its practical rope glider and easily traversable intermediate brackets the ABS vertical lifeline system stands for top safety and maximum user-friendliness.

The ABS vertical lifeline system is licensed and CE-tested in accordance with DIN EN 353-1 as a guided type fall arrester with a rigid anchor line.

Properties
The system can be installed on all substructures, such as roof access routes, building frontages, ladders, masts etc. All system components are manufactured from stainless steel, providing optimum resistance to corrosion - both inside and out.

Implementation
The ABS vertical lifeline system was developed as a vertical anchor to secure a user whilst climbing up or down a ladder construction.

This is achieved by connecting up a special 8mm stainless steel cable between two end brackets and then tightening it up. Intermediate brackets are installed every 5-6 meters (every 6-7 meters when used indoors) to keep the cable straight and prevent swaying.

Virtually any length of cable is feasible. The stretch of cable can be interrupted at any stage, for example at a platform. Lengths of cable of up to 30 meters can be tightened effortlessly using the end tensioning element. For stretches of over 30 meters a stainless steel spring is fitted to counteract any deviances in length due to changes in temperature (summer-winter).

To ensure that the glider runs smoothly over the intermediate bracket, the cable is briefly pulled out of the rubber guide allowing the vertical lifeline glider to pass over the intermediate bracket. The cable is then pressed back into the rubber guide.

Vertical Lifeline Glider
The vertical lifeline glider is equipped with a blocking system which is triggered if the user falls. An integrated spring mechanism keeps the stop ring in place allowing it to run freely whilst climbing up or down. If the user falls the stop ring is jerked downwards, causing the glider to lock.

ABS Vertical Lifeline System - Design and Components

End Bracket
The end bracket is fitted to the substructure, e.g. by attaching two clamps to the rungs of the ladder or in the case of concrete cladding by using concrete dowels. This means that it can be installed for numerous different applications.

Clevis
The clevis is molded onto one end of the cable by the manufacturer and is used to terminate the cabling system. A bolt fitted with a safety cotter pin is used to attach the clevis to the end bracket.

Vertical Lifeline Glider
The vertical lifeline glider glides along the guiding cable - locking in the case of a fall. A special technical design allows the glider to run freely alongside the user as he/she climbs up or down.

Intermediate Bracket
The intermediate bracket is attached, for example, to the rung of a ladder using a clamp. Due to its universal elongated eyelet it can also be installed in a multitude of different ways. The guiding cable is led through a rubber clamp.

Guiding Cable
The guiding cable is made of stainless steel (material 1.4301) and is 8mm in diameter. This is attached to the clevis and the tensioning element at the end brackets.

End Tensioner
The end tensioning element is installed at the lower end of the vertical lifeline system, acting on the one hand as a clevis and on the other as a tensioner for tightening the cable and for counteracting any cable stretch which may occur as a result of temperature changes.
